Mad Season (1994)
The only album that was released by Mad Season turns thirty years old today. The band consisted of Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, and bassist John Baker Saunders, who would go on to play with The Walkabouts.
The whole album is very good, but the two songs that I remember best are the ones that they played on Z-Rock when I was a teenager: River Of Deceit and I Don't Know Anything.
My pain is self-chosenAt least, so the prophet saysI could either burnOr cut off my pride and buy some timeA head full of lies is the weight tied to my waistThe river of deceit pulls downThe only direction we flow is downDown, oh downMy pain is self-chosenAt least I believe it to beI could either drownOr pull off my skin and swim to shoreNow I can grow a beautiful shell for all to seeThe river of deceit pulls down, yeahThe only direction we flow is downDown, oh downThe pain is self-chosenOur pain is self-chosen
