It was announced on Friday that the Phillies have signed a dude that they have been rumored to be interested in acquiring for a long time. Super-utility veteran Whit Merrifield signed a one year, $7 million dollar contract with a team option for 2025.
This is exactly the kind of move that championship teams make. Merrifield gives the Phillies depth at practically every position on the field. He's a three time all-star (including last season) and has led the American League in stolen bases three times, the most recent of which was just three years ago. He's 35 and past his peak seasons, but he's still one of the best utility players in the game.
