The Sun
Volume 12, Number 1
Thirty years ago today, my dad was immortalized in the tabloids. His best friend John was a senior editor for The Sun, which was a supermarket tabloid along the same lines as the Weekly World News. He would sometimes include the names of friends and family in his stories. For the January 4th 1994 issue, he wrote a cover story which alleged that my father sat next to Fidel Castro at Veterans Stadium during the 1993 World Series.
My dad and I lived in South Florida at the time. We watched the 1993 World Series together from our living room in Boynton Beach. It's pretty obvious that this is a fake story, but I still brought it to school to show one of the more gullible baseball fans in my homeroom.
The "news story" also got picked up by Debbie Woodell of the Philadelphia Daily News.
