Kick
INXS (1987)
One of the greatest albums to come out of the 1980's was released 35 years ago today. Kick was the sixth studio album from INXS. It peaked at #3 on the charts and would remain on the Billboard Top 200 for over a year after its release. The album included four singles that would reach the Top 10 in the United States: New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Devil Inside, and Need You Tonight, which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Kick is the highest selling album by INXS to date. It has been certified X6 Platinum and several of its songs still get played on the radio to this day. The one I tend to hear the most is Need You Tonight, which is an incredible song that would sound even better if they stopped lumping Mediate on the end of it.
With the exception of Mediate, which is quite frankly a ridiculous song, it's a solid album from front to back and it still sounds fresh three and a half decades after it was released. My favorite song on the record is Devil Inside, which I immediately fell in love with the first time I heard it. I remember seeing the music video on MTV when I was a kid and having the song stuck in my head for months afterward.
What I didn't realize when I was a kid was that the music video for Devil Inside was directed by Joel Schumacher. The story behind this is that Mr. Schumacher was over-budget when he was filming The Lost Boys, so there wasn't a lot of money left over for the soundtrack. He made an arrangement with INXS to record Laying Down The Law and a cover of Good Times with Jimmy Barnes to include on the soundtrack, in exchange for which Mr. Schumacher agreed to direct an INXS music video.
Here come the woman with the look in her eye
Raised on leather with flesh on her mindWords as weapons, sharper than knivesMakes you wonder how the other half dieHere come the man with the look in his eyeHe's fed on nothing but full of prideLook at them go, look at them kickMakes you wonder how the other half liveDevil inside, the devil insideEvery single one of us, the devil insideDevil inside, devil insideEvery single one of us, the devil insideHere come the world with the look in its eyeFuture uncertain, but certainly slightLook at the faces, listen to the bellsIt's hard to believe we need a place called hellThe devil inside, the devil insideEvery single one of us, the devil insideDevil inside, the devil insideEvery single one of us, the devil inside
