A Flock Of Seagulls (1982)
The first studio album from A Flock Of Seagulls was released 40 years ago today. It has four of my favorite new wave songs of the decade - Modern Love Is Automatic, Telecommunication, Space Age Love Song and, of course, I Ran.
The biggest hit on the record by far is I Ran. It's still one of my favorite songs to drive to, but if I had to pick a single favorite song on the album, it would be Space Age Love Song. It's doesn't have deep, complex lyrics or anything. It's just a declaration of a feeling that everybody can relate to, expressed in a way that feels like it came from a dance club on a lunar base.
