There's a snowstorm passing through the Northeast today, but at least it's not as bad as the blizzard that brought 40 mph winds and dropped 22 inches of snow on New York City 134 years ago. It started at midnight on March 12, 1888 and it snowed nonstop for a full day and a half. The storm stretched from the Chesapeake Bay to the Canadian Atlantic provinces and was responsible for over 400 deaths and $25 million in damages (in 1888 dollars).
